Surgical Suture thread keep the wound part closed for healing after suturing. From the materials combined surgical suture, it can be classified as: catgut (contains Chromic and Plain), Silk, Nylon, Polyester, Polypropylene, Polyvinylidenfluoride (also named as “PVDF” in wegosutures), PTFE, Polyglycolic Acid (also named “PGA” in wegosutures), Polyglactin 910 (also named Vicryl or “PGLA” in wegosutures), Poly(glycolide-co-caprolactone)(PGA-PCL) (also named Monocryl or “PGCL” in wegosutures), Polyester poly (dioxanone) (also named as PDSII or “PDO” in wegosutures), Stainless Steel and Ultra High macular weight PE (also named as UHMWPE).  Sutures thread can also be classified through the Origin of material, the absorption profile, and the Fiber Construction. First, by classified with origin of materials, surgical suture can be natural and synthetic: - Natural contains catgut (contains Chromic and Plain) and Slik; - Synthetic contains Nylon, Polyester, Polypropylene, PVDF, PTFE, PGA, PGLA, PGCL, PDO, Stainless steel and UHMWPE. Second, by classified with the absorption profile, surgical suture can be as follows: - Absorbable contains catgut (contains Chromic and Plain), PGA, PGLA, PDO, and PGCL In absorbable suture, it can also be classified with its absorption rate as absorbable and fast absorbable: PGA, PGLA and PDO combined absorbable suture; and catgut plain, catgut chromic, PGCL, PGA rapid and PGLA rapid are fast absorbable suture. *The reason separate absorbable suture into absorbable and fast absorbable is because the retention time after sutured on human or vet. Usually, if the suture can stay in body and support the wound closure for less than 2 weeks or in 2 weeks, it is called fast or rapid absorbable suture. During that time, most tissue can heal in 14 to 21 days. If the suture can hold wound closure for more than 2 weeks, it is called absorbable suture. - Non-absorbable contains Silk, Nylon, Polyester, Polypropylene, PVDF, PTFE, Stainless Steel and UHMWPE. When we called absorb, it is the process that surgical suture is being degraded by enzyme and water in body. And third, surgical suture can be classified through fiber construction as follows: - Multifilament suture contains Silk, Polyester, Nylon braided, PGA, PGLA, UHMWPE; - Monofilament suture contains catgut (contains Chromic and Plain), Nylon, Polypropylene, PVDF, PTFE, Stainless steel, PGCL, and PDO.
